Sikhote-Alin Meteorite Iron, IIAB Maritime Territory, Siberia, Russia - (46°09'36"N, 134° 39'12"E) Witnessed Fall: February 12, 1947, 10:30 am local time Extremely sculptural, covered in superb regmaglypt "thumbprints" over the highly textural surface, and exquisite gun metal gray coloration all accurately describe this wonderful, complete individual Sikhote-Alin Meteorite specimen. Unlike the numerous "shrapnel" examples of the Iron, which was, at the time, the most widely witnessed fall in human history up to that point, this is one superlative collector specimen. Weighing a stout 642.5 grams, this visually striking, substantially dimensional, and very sculptural space rock is superlative on all counts. A noticeable "flap" of metal folds over on the main body of the piece, resulting in an even more complex meteorite from the fall in Siberia. Measurements: 3.83 x 2.51 x 1.87 inches (9.74 x 6.37 x 4.74 cm), weighs 642.5 grams HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
