Sikhote-Alin Meteorite Iron, IIAB Maritime Territory, Siberia, Russia - (46°09'36"N, 134° 39'12"E) Witnessed Fall: 12 February 1947 10:30 am local time This complex specimen of Sikhote-Alin Meteorite represents the widely witnessed fall that occurred in 1947 over the Siberia region of Russia. Weighing 1.2 kilograms, this piece is solid and heavy, but has an abundance of textural aspects and twisty turns, indicative of "shrapnel" from the famous bolide event. All faces of this classic example display the look of torn metal, the result of violent fragmentation from the meteoric event. The gun metal colored piece is sculpturally artistic and offers a dynamic fluidity to the rugged mass of metal from Outer Space. This piece has a nice combination of size, form and color. Overall Measurements: 3.90 x 3.04 x 2.35 inches (9.90 x 7.71 x 5.96 cm), weighs 1,198 grams [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
