Sikhote-Alin Meteorite "Shrapnel" Iron, IIAB Primorskiy kray, Russia - (46° 9' 36"N, 134° 39' 12"E) Witnessed Fall: 12 February 1947 10:30 am local time The Sikhote-Alin bolide that exploded over Siberia, Russia in 1947 dropped tons of meteorite material on the ground below including examples of "shrapnel" that evidence the torn metal associated with a violent fragmentation. This specimen weighing 873 grams is uncharacteristically silvery in color, likely due to preparative cleaning revealing the intense metallic core of the sample unlike so many that are not treated for display. This mass is beautiful, complex and dimensional on both primary faces with a bushed and fluid attribute. A highly aesthetic, and naturally artistic example, this chunk of "shrapnel" looks amazing and is clearly dense, solid and heavy. This is an exceptional representation of the type. Measurements: 3.96 x 2.83 x 1.78 inches (10.05 x 7.20 x 4.51 cm), weighs 873 grams [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
