7.375" x 4". Silver plated engraved throughout with soldiers in a military cap, along with dimensional chased eagle and flags, with panel engraved "Presented to/Col. John C Hays/of the State of Texas/By the citizens of Washington City/as a Testimonial of their regard/for the Distinguished Military Services/to the/United States/during the war with/The Republic of Mexico/June 1848". After the defeat of the Mexican Army in 1848, Hays and his company of Rangers returned to Texas to much pomp and ceremony. Treated as a guest of honor at balls and parties, Hays was presented this trophy by the citizens of Washington, Texas (also known as Washington-on-the-brazos). **Fine condition.
