Sir Stanley Spencer CBE RA, British 1891-1959- Women with Balloons, c.1935; pencil, squared, two in a shared mount, 17.5 x 13 cm and 12.5 x 13.5 cm (ARR) (VAT charged on hammer price) Provenance: with Bernard Jacobson Gallery according to the labels attached to the reverse of the frame.
Shared mount in a glazed wooden moulding frame which appears in overall good condition. May or may not be stuck down unexamined out of the frame, drawings both appear on laid cream coloured paper and have been squared with pencil and then sketched on top of. Both works show signs of heavy indentation/creasing where they have been previously mounted and the mount has pressed down and indented the sheet, the new mount is cut marginally bigger so it is visible around the edges of the mount. On the left side drawing there is a crease bottom right corner and a small brown spot in this area. On the right side drawing there is a suspected tear approximately 2cm in left from the centre bottom left edge going into the leg, there is a long crease running from the top left edge to the centre top edge of the work, there is a suspected tear approximately 7cm from the right side coming down the centre top about 2.5cm going into the hand. Otherwise appear in overall good original condition.
