[ translate ]

Egypt, Late Period, ca. 664 BCE – 300 CE. Six long strands of tiny faience disc beads, many hundreds to a strand, shift in color from turquoise and celadon to sage, straw, and a deep oxidized plum. Each bead was shaped from a quartz-based paste, pierced, and fired so that its alkaline glaze took on the blue-green Egyptian faience is known for, here mottled and softened by age. Small ring-shaped beads like these were made in huge numbers.
