Small Jade Footed Cup Northern India Mughal
19th Century or earlier small jade stem footed cup, carved from a single piece of celadon-toned jade. The cup exhibits a slightly translucent, mottled pale olive and sage-green hue with natural cloud-like white and darker inclusions. A simple silhouette, it features a deep, rounded bowl with an even thinly-carved rim. The bowl rests upon a solid cylindrical stem that tapers outward to form a stable, low-spreading foot. Unlike highly ornamented imperial pieces adorned with gold inlay or relief foliate carving, this piece celebrates the plain elegance of the hardstone itself. Similar pieces can be found across major institutions, such as the historic collections at the Salar Jung Museum. Approx. 5.5cms h.
Provenance: Private Collection London.
