Small seated bronze Buddha, Dvaravati period (Thailand, 7th–9th century). H: 11 cm. Provenance: Former American collection from the 1990s. The Buddha is depicted in the padmāsana posture, with his hands in the double vitarka mudrā, symbolizing the teaching and transmission of the Dharma. His serene face, with half-closed eyes, expresses meditation and spiritual awakening. He wears the saṅghāṭi, leaving his right shoulder bare, in accordance with iconography characteristic of Dvaravati art. While rooted in the Indian Gupta tradition, this bronze sculpture distinguishes itself through more pronounced stylization and simplified forms, illustrating the Buddhist ideals of wisdom, inner peace, and compassion.
