Smithsonite Kelly Mine, Magdalena, Magdalena District, Socorro Co., New Mexico, USA "A botryoidal mass of blue green lustrous smithsonite." - Rock H. Currier Ever wonder, how much of the economic value of the Kelly Mine is/was tied up in specimens like this one? This may be idle conjecture, to be sure, but given what these cool confections have brought on the market, it is worth considering. The unique luster and texture are such that even a blind person stands a better than even chance of being able to differentiate a Kelly piece from, say, a Choix Sinaloa one. Try it sometime. Meanwhile, bask in the glory of this massive cuprian confection. This Smithsonite has been cleaned by one of the world's finest mineral labs: they filled the internal fractures, and repaired the impact damage that occurred when this heavy specimen was extracted from the mine. There is a custom acrylic base to show off this exceptional specimen. Overall Measurements: 7.1 x 7.9 x 4.7 inches (18.0 x 20.0 x 12.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: RHC #3990, acquired 1979 [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
