Smoky Quartz São Geraldo do Baixio, Minas Gerais, Brazil 20.2 x 12.8 x 1.5 cm (7.95 x 5.04 x 0.59 in) As the most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust, it stands to reason that Quartz will tend to surprise us with other unusual or distinctive patterns that keep it interesting in our eyes as collectors. Here is one of those pieces, showing a very broad, cabinet specimen of so-called "alligator" Quartz. The entire crystal resembles more of a flatter plate with a handful of smaller, intergrown crystals splayed across its front side. Complete all around with terminated faces along its left and right sides and finished with tinges of smoky grey wafting about the specimen's gemmy interior. This piece comes mounted on an older-style wooden Sunnywood base (TSC3085). From the collection of John Warn [BRZ0212f].
