Smoky Quartz - "The Chicken Claw" Lincoln County, New Mexico, USA 21.2 x 8.2 x 4.2 cm (8.35 x 3.23 x 1.65 in) A surprising example of the excellent Smoky Quartz specimens to come from Lincoln County. Composing most of the specimen is a single elongated and nicely terminated crystal spanning the entire length of the specimen. Adorning top-right side of the main crystal are multiple well-formed Smoky Quartz crystals that stretch outward in a way that is reminiscent of an outstretched claw; the largest of these crystals is doubly terminated, measuring 8.8 centimeters in length. Smoky Quartz specimens from this well-known mining region are often lauded for their higher levels of transparency and impressive phantoms, which can be best seen towards the terminations of this specimen's more sizable crystals.
