Biography
Kano Chikanobu (1660-1728)
Painter of the early to mid-Edo period.
Born on July 2, 1660, as the eldest son of Kano Tsunenobu.
Participated in the creation of the Edo Castle barrier paintings in Enpo 6 (1678) .
Inherited the Kano family residence in Kobikicho in Shotoku 3 (1713) .
Became a Hogen (a rank in the Buddhist hierarchy) in Kyoho 4 (1719) and worked on a folding screen presented to Korea.
Died on January 6, 1728, at the age of 69.
He was commonly known as Ukon, and his art names were Nyosen and Taigusai.
