Snuff box - TABATIÈRE de LIÈGE JEAN-FRANÇOIS-TOUSSAINT WINAND - Silver, Gold (Vermeil)

[ translate ]

Snuff Box or Snuff Box, 18th century, Liège, Sterling Silver, Vermeil interior.
This Louis
It closes airtight to retain the vegetable fragrance with which the snuff is flavored.
The interior is vermeil, because gold does not oxidize.
This pocket box features scalloped contours and an engraved decoration of rockeries which frame a deer hunting scene on the lid.
It is engraved with plant and rock motifs over its entire surface.
The underside is also finely chiseled with a typical bird decoration found on other snuff boxes signed by this Master Goldsmith.
The face has a thumb rest in the center as are often found on Liège snuff boxes in a medallion centered on an enigmatic face.
The master goldsmith's mark is practically erased but at the goldsmith museum of the Château de Seneffe (site available, last photo) an almost identical snuff box from the goldsmith Jean-François-Toussaint Winand (1743-1794) is preserved.
This little wonder weighs 90 grams.
Hallmark present on the edge on the front but worn; hardly readable.
Artist: Attributed to Jean-François-Toussaint Winand.
Period: 18th century
Style: Louis XV
Condition: Perfect state of conservation with its usual wear which gives it its authenticity.
Material: Solid silver (from Bavaria?) and gold (Vermeil)
Weight: 91 grams
Length: 80mm
Width: 58mm
Height: 35mm
I left the patina of time, believing that it reflects its age, and everyone is free to clean it.
Fast and careful shipping for this beautiful display and collector's item, even museum item.
