Snuffbox - Empire - Corozo nut - Early 19th century
A beautiful snuffbox carved out of a corozo nut from the tagua tree – also known as "vegetal ivory", depicting 2 putti leaning against a bundle of arrows, amidst scrollwork foliage. To the back there are instruments of war (helmet & shield, spears, banners, etc. .) . This box clearly refers to the Napoleonic wars. France. Empire. Early 19th century (circa 1803-1815) . Dimensions: 6cm x 3. 9cm x 1. 7cm thick Note: the snuffbox is in beautiful condition. The "lines" on the inside are the natural structure of the corozo nut, so it's not damaged nor cracked.
