Solomon Nogard (1916) Judaica Portraits

Item/Description: Pair of framed oil on bone or celluloid portraits of Middle Eastern Jews by Russian born artist, Solomon Nogard. The subjects, Yemenite, Moroccan and Chasidic are depicted in traditional garb of the late 19th - early 20th Century. Each frame holds three portraits of women and men. Artist signed ( last name) and initialed in Hebrew. Suspended in glass, framed. Solomon Nogard was born in Russia in 1916 and immigrated to Israel in 1947 where he studied at the renowned Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem. Known for his lifelike portrayal of the Jews in Israel from different cultures, his works are typically oil on linen or bone.
