Sopraporta - polychromed and gilt wood - Late 19th century

This curious overdoor in carved wood features winged gryphons and a Lion’s head at the centre, the indelible symbol of the Serenissima Venetian Republic, with scrolls and round decorations on the sides. As you can see, the work's eclectic style is excellent. It was probably part of a pair, but it is still beautiful even as a single piece, given its origin from the fine Laguna carving school. It is perfect to hang in a congruous space with antique furniture. It comes from the Lido of Venice, from a private family and dates back to the end of the 19th century.
