South India - Katar - Dagger

A beautiful example of a rare south Indian Katar, most likely of Tanjore. The handle is raised and elaborately chiselled and perforated; the double-edged blade is riveted and wrought on the hilt. The ornamental motifs have the classic vegetable and animal decorations.
