South Staffordshire Enamel Armorial Snuff Box
Late Eighteenth Century. The shaped cover painted and gilt with an armorial and crown crest, reserved on a field of flowers within a scroll-edged border, the front, sides and back with similar panels and all on a dark blue ground. H: 1.75 in., W: 3.625 in., D: 2.625 in. Provenance: Affixed with a circular label for "GILMAN COLLAMORE & CO./ 5th Ave. and 30th St./ New York." Gilman Collamore (1834-1888) established his own business in 1861 with Gilman Collamore & Co., at 731 Broadway, then Union Square. Eventually Gilman occupied two stories of showrooms in The Wilbraham, a fashionable block of bachelor flats at Fifth Avenue and 30th Street.
