South Wales Borderers, WWI British Trio, awarded to 13588 Private Thomas Watkins, before the war Watkins served in the Royal Navy, service number 30684, at the beginning of WWI Watkins joined C Company, 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers, 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, while seeing service in France we received a gun shot wound to his left knee, he was evacuated back to the UK, he transferred to the 11th Service Battalion, Liverpool Regiment and went to Belgium where the Battalion fought in the Battle of the Scarpe, Battle of Langemark and the 1st Battle of Passchendaele, again being evacuated back to the UK to the Moss Side Military Hospital with shell shock, upon recovery he transferred to the Army Service Corps finishing his Army Service in the Labour Corps at Liverpool Docks, he was entitled to wear the Silver Wound Badge, no.B284940 (3)
