Southeast Asian Gilt Bronze Buddha
Southeast Asian gilt bronze Buddha or Bodhisattva, possibly Ming period, the subject depicted seated upon a dragon or foo dog with sash tied at his waist, a necklace with tassels, and an elaborate crown with lotus and foliate surround, resting upon a green polychrome base. Later ebonized wooden stand included. 9 1/2" H x 6" W x 3 1/2" D. 17th century or earlier. Provenance: Collection of Thomas M. Alexander, Greeneville, TN, former U.S. Army Captain Airborne/Special Forces during the Late 1960s/Early 1970s in Vietnam. He became a Central Intelligence Agency Field Officer in Southeast Asia, beginning in the early 1970s until his retirement in 1994.
