Southern Walnut Sheraton Sugar Chest, KY or TN
Southern walnut Sheraton sugar chest with walnut secondary, attributed to Tennessee or Kentucky. Comprised of an ogee molded top above a case with exposed dovetails and inlaid escutcheon, lower section with a simple medial molding over one dovetailed and scratch beaded drawer with wooden pulls, all resting on delicate turned legs. 31" H x 29 1/2" W x 19 3/8" D. Circa 1830. Note: Chest includes a pair of iron sugar nips.Provenance: The Estate of Donley and Eunice Hill, Andersonville, Tennessee.
Condition Report: Old refinish. Approx. 4" rear strip of the lid is a replacement, lid molding is old but likely a later addition, later inlaid escutcheon, interior divider and original lock missing. Older replaced strip to interior well bottom with some later added screws to interior for reinforcement.
