Alfonso XII 5 Pesetas 1882(82) MS-M MS66 NGC, Madrid mint, KM688, Dav-341, Cal-51. An absolute stunner of a 5 Pesetas, even when considering the choice offerings in this collection. Decorated in saturated hues of marigold and teal and set ablaze upon illumination, with even graphite surfaces giving way to unimpeded mint luster. The reverse boasts more pearlescent, silty appearances, die polish hugging the peripheral elements while hardly a flaw is detectable even under high magnification. Unsurprisingly the undisputed single finest representative of the date across both major grading services, with only one other MS66 seen for the whole of the 19th-century Spanish 5 Pesetas series.
