Uncoloured copy of Ortelius' map with three regions in Spain: the island and the bay of Cadiz, the basin of the Taag from Toledo to Morata, Cinchon and Colmenar and the Basque country in northern Spain between San Sebastian and Deva. Titles in the three cartouches: 'Carpetaniae Partis Descr. 1584'; 'Vardulorum sive, Guipuscoae Regionis Typus'; 'Hanc Insulam Perlustrabat et sua manu de pingebat Georgisu Hoefnalius Antverpian. Belga'. Published in 'Theatri Orbis Terrarum Parergon. . . ', Balthasar Moretus, ex Officina Plantiniana, Antwerp 1595, Italian edition. The map of the Bay of Cadiz was made by George Hoefnagel during his stay on site in 1563-1567. The origin of the very accurate data of the Basque country map is unknown. Good condition of a map that is somewhat added onto along the edges, map’s image was not affected. Nice dark print. On page 41 x 51 cm. , with wide margins, verso: Italian text 'L'Isola di Cadiz'.
