Antique silver coin, Dei Gratia Carolus IIII, 1794
This is the Carolus IIII 8 Reales with the bust of King Charles the Third of Spain on the front. The obverse of this large silver dollar-sized coin features the inscription "CAROLUS. IIII. DEI. GRATIA" around the bust of the king and the year 1794 below.
The reverse depicts the crowned coat of arms of Spain between pillars with the inscription "HESPANIA. ET IND. REX" followed by the mint mark as a monogram "M . 8 R. F. M. " around the arms. These coins were widely used in the US before silver dollars were in circulation. The coin is nicely toned and all details are beautifully preserved.
