Spanish school, XVII century.
Spanish School, XVII century.
"Virgin and Child".
Carved wood. Original polychrome.
Presents lack of polychrome and some cracks in the wood.
Measurements: 45 x 16 x 13 cm.
Virgin and Child in carving of round bulk of Spanish Baroque school. It is a quality carving, which can be appreciated in the fine carving of the tunics, in its draping and folds. The posture of the Virgin, advancing her right knee, prints a dynamic movement to the mantle, typically baroque. The countenance, on the other hand, is serene. The naked body of the Child Jesus has been skillfully turned in all its details. He holds the orb without any hieratic expression. By not adopting the attitude of blessing, the small body conveys a human and natural imprint. A seraph appears in the cloud cluster, at Mary's feet.
