Special Order Pre-War Winchester Model 70 Standard Weight Bolt Action Rifle in 35 Whelen Caliber
Made by Winchester Repeating Arms according to serial number in 1940. Gun has 24" blued Winchester Proof Steel marked barrel with correct stippled ramp front sight and plugged rear boss and standard address markings with "35 WHELEN" caliber marking. Barrel is marked on underside "35 W-41" meaning 1941 production. Barrel has standard 6 groove rifling. Correct black oxide sandblasted bluing with correct cartridge slot and undrilled rear receiver with cloverleaf tang. Receiver is fitted with Lyman 48 peep sight. Correct matching serialized bolt with Pre-War style three position safety. Blued hinged detachable steel floorplate with serrated trigger. Walnut Pre-1940 style 20 line per inch checkered low comb stock with oval grip, steel checkered buttplate and factory bow sling swivels. Appears to be an all correct gun. LOP: 13-3/4". 90% original blue with edges starting to wear to a silvery patina. Bolt showing handling wear. Wood has sharp checkering with 90% + original varnish with small handling dings. Excellent bore and mechanics.
