Special Silver Blackbird spreader - .833 silver - onb. Hollandse Zilversmid - Netherlands - Late 19th century
Exceptionally beautiful shaker in the shape of a silver blackbird. The piece was made by a Dutch silversmith, but the mark has become unclear, possibly RB2 or the like. The hallmarks which are clearly legible, including the 1859 tax mark for new unassayed works of national origin and the tax mark key, mark indicating 2/3 refund of tax upon export. (See Dutch hallmarks since 1797 pg. 45) These tax marks are present on both the inner collar and on the casting lid. There are also three pseudo hallmarks. This happens more often in regard to export objects. Without a doubt, a beautiful collectible. Will be packaged with care before shipping.
