Oriented meteorites are highly coveted for the visual record they provide of their fiery passage through Earth's atmosphere, and a glance at the present amazing specimen provides ample explanation for their status among collectors. Only the few rare meteorites that are stable during entry will exhibit the visual signs of ablation and accumulation as beautifully illustrated by this example. Meteorites known as eucrites are associated with the diogenites and howardites; all three groups have been theorized to originate in the asteroid, 4 Vesta.
