This American superhero sequel, and middle instalment in the Spider-Man trilogy, was directed by Sam Raimi and written by Alvin Sargent, from a story by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Michael Chabon. As with all the Spider-Man films it is based on the fictional Marvel Comics character. This instalment saw Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco and J. K. Simmons all reprise their roles from the first film, released in 2002.
