Spilled Strawberries Oil Painting

13.5 x 15.5 inches. Oil on canvas; a few repairs. A late 19th-century American School still life painting executed in oil on stretched canvas. The composition features a cluster of ripe strawberries spilling from a tipped metal vessel onto a grassy foreground, set against a dark, monochromatic background. The artist utilizes a chiaroscuro lighting effect to highlight the textured surface of the fruit and the reflective metallic rim of the pot. The painting is housed in an ornate, period-style gilded wood and composition frame decorated with scrolling acanthus leaf motifs at the corners and centers. The verso shows a natural fiber canvas secured to a four-member wooden stretcher. A heavily degraded brown paper backing is present, partially obscuring the wooden support. No signature or inscription is visible on the front of the work. Faint, illegible handwritten marks are present on the upper wooden stretcher bar but do not form a readable name or date.
