Spinach jade horse on a pedestal, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period

A beautiful jade carving in the form of a horse at rest, in a recumbent position. Eyes attentive, his mouth and nostrils give a touch of seriousness and wisdom, the head slightly tilted allowing the position of the ears to get all the information that the wind offers him. The position of the head allows the horse's mane to spread on both sides over the back like silky but thick hair, this is carefully carved with fine and delicate stripes that offer all the texture of the horse's coat, as well as the elegant long tail which is held over his left hind quarter. The animal's four legs are hidden beneath its body and offer great detail in the carving of its hooves.

The superbly polished jade is of a deep, uniform and surprisingly pure spinach-green tone, with dark flecks that appear to belong to the animal's own coat.

Jade figure on pedestal, Qing dynasty (1644 - 1912), Qianlong period (18th century).

Size: 8 x 6.8 x 19.5 cm; Jade weight: 1543 gr

Provenance: Current French private collection. -Previous owner of lot: 92, (Carved spinach green jade vase, Qing dynasty) Auction: Asian Art Auction 29 December 2022. Darley Auctions.
