The Liverpool watchmaking firm Thos. Russell & Son was founded in 1848 by Thomas Russell Junior (1811–1867). His ancestors had already been working as watchmakers in Liverpool. In 1859, Thomas Robert Russell (1833–1894) and Alfred Holgate Russell (1840–1893) took over the business. The firm was renamed ‘Thomas Russell & Son’. The partnership between Thomas Robert and Alfred ended in 1870, whereupon Thomas Robert became the sole owner of the ‘Russell Watch and Chronometer Manufactory’ at the ‘Cathedral Works’, 18 Church Street, with branches in Piccadilly, Toronto and Canada. In 1894, it was renamed Russell’s Limited and established itself as a retail jeweller with branches in Liverpool and, until the early 20th century, in Manchester and Llandudno. The firm Thos. Russell & Son was continued by Alfred Holgate Russell as Alfred Russell & Co.Source: watch-wiki.org
