A 19th Century Spode "Indian Sporting Series" Platter. Large blue and white transferware platter with scarce pattern entitled "Shooting a Leopard" at the well, contained within a border of various exotic animals, including a tiger, a bear, and a crane. Marked at the underside with both maker's and pattern name. Includes label verso that reads "Purchased 9/25/1999 from Boothman's Auctioneers, Stoke-on-Trent England Platter donated from the collection of the historian Robert Copeland, a descendant of the 19th century owners, to raise money for the Spode Museum Trust." Crazing, some wear to the glaze. 16 x 20 3/4". ESTIMATE $800-1,200
