This is a Chinese export interpretation of an engraving by Thomas Gaugain (Anglo-French, 1756-1812) after a painting by William Redmore Bigg, published in London in 1792. According to Carl Crossman (see work cited above, p. 166), this painting "would have certianly seem to have come from the hand of Spoilum."

Condition Report: Glue relined. Visible craquelure. Repaired hole (roughly 1 inch in diameter) in the sky in the upper right quadrant. Scattered touches of restoration, including one long line of repair running horizontally across the painting about 2 inches below the upper border.
