Illustrated with photogravure frontispiece and 96 plates on 48 leaves, primarily half-tone photos. Publisher's three-quarter black morocco and brick-red cloth, stamped in gilt to front board and spine, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed, lightly rubbed; pages toned and with scattered soiling. This copy prepared for Richard Smith Emmet and with his name printed on the title-page. Emmet was the son of Devereux Emmet, the prolific and pioneering American golf course architect.

Tilden is regarded as the finest player of the first half of the twentieth century, this book was issued at the apogee of his fame and influence.
