Oil or Acrylic on Canvas (Unframed) by Squeak Carnwath (American, b. 1947), "Separate Time", 1983-1984. This striking work consists of four panels that together compose a scene with architectural elements, featuring grid-like windows and a central platform holding a large vase. The two end panels depict representations of a moon and a sun. The artwork is characterized by heavy impasto and expressive brushwork in black, white, red, blue, with accents of gold and other colors. Each of the four sections measures 60" x 24". The piece is signed and dated "S. Carnwath 1984" on the lower right of the right panel. Additionally, it is signed, dated, and titled in black paint on the canvas verso of the right panel and also titled on the stretcher of the left panel. The versos of all panels are marked with placement instructions. This item originates from the estate of John A. Williams, a distinguished philanthropist and renowned collector. Mr. Williams and his partner Dewitt Hart were influential members of San Francisco's art society and were celebrated for their discerning taste in modern, ethnographic, and fine art. Over the years, they hosted numerous exhibitions in their home, showcasing their prestigious collection to appreciative audiences. All proceeds of items from this estate benefit the Hart Williams Rainbow Fund, a nonprofit working with the LGBTQIA+ community in the San Francisco Bay Area.
