[ translate ]

Property from the Estate of Hester Diamond
Master of the Lille Adoration
active in Antwerp circa 1510 - 1530
St. Jerome in his study

oil on panel
panel: 24 ½ by 19 ¼ in.; 62.2 by 48.9 cm.
framed: 29 by 23¾ in.; 73.7 by 60.3 cm.

Condition Report:
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This painting has been well restored and could be hung in its current condition. It is painted on a single piece of oak with no reinforcements. On the left and right sides of the reverse, there are small areas that have been affected by woodworm, but these are consolidated and inactive. The painting is clean and varnished. Retouches are visible under ultraviolet light. They are quite numerous in the dark colors around Saint Jerome's head and shoulders, and in the clouds in the upper left. Although there are small retouches applied in the lighter colors, the condition is generally good in the landscape in the upper right, figure, still life in the lower center, and skull. The retouches are accurately applied. The painting looks well and should be hung in its current state.
