【Product details】

Dive into the elegance of this luxurious book stand, detailed with gold maki-e designs of the arabesque pattern and the Kuyō family crest against a sophisticated black lacquer. Accompanied by a drawer which houses a striking red cushion inside, it seamlessly integrates style with utility.

Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique where gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto wet lacquer to produce intricate designs.

The arabesque pattern is symbolic of growth and prosperity. It embodies the essence of vines that exhibit relentless growth, an epitome of vitality and life.

The Kuyō family crest, characterized by a central prominent star surrounded by eight smaller stars, draws its roots from ancient Indian astrology. It combines the seven traditional planetary deities - Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn - with two additional stars, Rāhu and Ketu. Over time, this celestial assemblage, associated with Buddha, became the "Kuyō Mandala", revered in various religious sects. Given its profound religious significance, the pattern evolved into a protective talisman and was adopted as a family crest, gracing the banners of several noble families in Japan.

Please note that there are some visible signs of wear and minor scratches due to its age. For a comprehensive view, please refer to the accompanying photos.

Dimensions: approx. H 64. 5 cm W 45. 5 cm L 30. 5 cm
