The rare woodcut, 1926, signed and dated in pencil, numbered indistinctly from the edition of 10, B&M cite the highest edition number recorded as 5, on wove paper, with full margins, sheet 165 x 155mm (6 ½ x 6 1/8 in)

Stephen Gibson joined the Anglo Iranian Oil Company (later to become BP) in 1922, the same year that Stanley William Hayter joined. The two remained close friends and the following works were gifts from Hayter to Stephen and his wife Minnie. Notably many of these works are from the earliest period of Hayter's output shortly after he left the Académie Julian and are of great rarity, many are known only from a handful of examples, and some were unknown until their appearance in this sale.
