€300 - €600

Star Lot: An impressive Very large original J. McDonald oil pastel on paper painting titled 'Ancient Order of Hiberity on the March'. Features the Irish Catholic organisation founded in New York City 1836. Rendered in bright primary palette. Signed 'J. McDonald bottom left. Housed in a fabulous high quality gilt frame behind glass.
MM: 140 x 110 cm including frame.

Jim Mc Donald born in Belfast in 1939. Jim Mc Donald was employed at the Harland and Wolfe firm as a technical illustrator after training as a draughtsman.
He later changed to freelancing in the same type of work, before returning to his first love, painting, in the 1980s.
It is understandable that Jim chose to depict shipyard workers returning from work at Harland and Wolfe as a subject. His pastel works are cleverly held together by unity of colour and an authentic sense of overall movement.
Occasionally horses or musicians are introduced into his compositions. Whatever his chosen subject, this artist’s work is characterised by a commendable unity of colour and line, volume and light.
