Statue - Gilt lacquered wood - Amitabha - Large buddha - Japan - Early Edo period
Large, very old giltwood Buddhist statue of Amida Buddha - Japan - ca. 1800 (Edo period) The front of the robe falls into U-shaped pleats from the chest down, the right hand raised in the abhayamudra gesture, the left hand lowered and the eyes cast down in a meditative gaze; supported by a lotus throne with petal lappets. The base of the statue shows from which period it stems: the curled leaf in the bottom corners and the curled decorations all around, one level above that the floral engravings, then the rhombic shape all around and finally the double lotus throne. Some worn spots, encircled in one of the photos. The hands had been removed and reattached with glue shortly after. The giltwood statue is delicately carved, very old and highly detailed. An exceptional collector's item. Please have a good look at the photos. Dimensions: H 49 cm x W 17 cm x D 12. 5 cm. Weight: approx. 634 g. Will be sent well-packaged and by registered post.
