【Product details】

Presented for auction is an exquisite hand-carved wooden statue titled "Ekidouji," a renowned figure among the Eight Great Youth attendants of Acala (Fudou Myouou) from the early Meiji period, crafted by the artisan Kaihatsu Touemon. Ekidouji, known for embodying the virtues of wisdom and joy from the eastern treasure trove and the gateway of prosperity and virtue, is a symbol of intellectual joy and spiritual enlightenment.

Although there is no inscription, it can be assumed that it was made by Kaihatsu Touemon because the construction characteristics are the same, especially when compared to the Buddha statue with inscriptions.
It boasts a finely detailed crown and clutches sacred Buddhist emblems — a vajra and a jewel, representing indestructible power and spiritual wealth.

The figure's eyes are inlaid with glass, enhancing the depth and expression of its tranquil visage. It stands upon an intricate base, both of which exhibit the patina of time, including surface wear, minor scratches, and some loss of the lacquer coating. These signs of time do not detract but rather add to the piece's rich history and exquisite artisanship.

Prospective buyers should note that the condition is as visibly captured in the photographs, and there is a possibility that surface peeling may worsen during shipment, with the chance of parts detaching. Understanding and acceptance of this pre-existing condition is requested prior to purchase.
It can be inferred that there is a high probability of surface peeling occurring.

Dimensions: approx. H 48. 5 cm W 18. 5 cm D 12. 3 cm
