Statue(s) (1) - Metal alloy, Raphia, Wood - Kenya - Mid 20th century
KAMBA Healer Statue At first glance, this piece may seem innocuous, even fanciful. However, a careful examination reveals all its richness. Let us recall first of all that this piece, as a "fetish", is an obligatory medium with protective spirits. For the rest : - It is carved in an extremely rare and sought-after wood, with a naturally shiny grain. - Its head bears human hair; the healer takes a tuft from each new patient. Thus the fetish knows for whom his interaction is sought. - Its eyes are made of white pearls; they communicate with the invisible. - One ear is small, the other is large; one listens to the world, the other to the spirits. - It wears two protective wooden necklaces. A pearl can be taken, crushed and mixed with oil to serve as an ointment. - It wears a raffia cloth; strands can be taken as a remedy. - Its head is covered with an iron cap to protect it from evil spirits. And here we are in the presence of a fetish that is alive, expressive, challenging. Rare piece. Provenance : Private Belgian collection Certification on request Shipping : Insured, tracked and traced Pick up possible at our gallery in Brussels (Sablon)
