Statue(s) (1) - Wood - Congo DRC - Early 20th century
Old LENGOLA statue The Lengola live in central Congo, close to Mbole, Tetela, Mutoko, and have rituals similar to BWAMI of the LEGA. Few things have been written about them. The present statue was to participate in the cult of founding ancestors, the basis of animism's cosmogony in Africa. What is remarkable is the degree of abstraction and the geometric construction of the piece that gives it a presence of great modernity. Very old piece, very refined, with the beautiful patina slightly crusty and brilliant after frequent offerings, with remains of paint. Very rare piece for its plastic qualities and dimensions. See appendix, photo of the founding ancestor "Ubanga Nyama" The intelligence of forms, by W. Mestach, 2007 p. 182 Provenance : Private Belgian collection Certification on request Shipping : Insured, tracked and traced Pick up possible at our gallery in Brussels (Sablon)
