Statue(s) - Wood - Lengola - Congo - 52 cm
The Lengola, whose territory is practically surrounded by the Metoko, located between the Lualaba and the Lomami rivers, were like their neighbours, socially structured by the Bokota institution. The Bokota society functioned through a wide system of ranks, and the members with the highest ranks assumed duties judging the organisers of ceremonies. The sculptures were related to divination, others to rites of circumcision and others even had a function in the passages of Bokota grades.
