Statuette en porcelaine de Meissen représentant un chasseur, circa 1745

A Meissen figure of a huntsman, circa 1745

Modelled by J.F. Eberlein, holding a musket with a hound seated to his left, wearing a black tricorn hat, gilt-edged green jacket with a hunting sword to his left, a satchel containing a partridge on his back, white breeches and black boots with gilt buttons, the base applied with leaves and a flower, 17.5cm high (very minor restoration)
The figure is listed in Eberlein's work reports in December 1743: '1. Einen Jäger wie er seine Büchse laden thut, auch die Jagd-Tasche mit Rephühnen auf dem Rücken hat und einen Hund neben sich, in Thon verfertiget' [a hunter loading his rifle, who also has a hunting-bag with partridges on his back and a dog next to him, modelled in clay].

The model was corrected and renewed in October 1744 by J.J. Kaendler as the moulds had already become worn, when it is mentioned in his work records: 'Vor Ihro Königl. Hoheit den Chur Printzen ein Modell in Gestalt eines ordentlichen Jägers mit einer Flinte und bei sich habenden Hunde corrigiret und in gehörigen Stand gesetzet' [For His Royal Highness the Electoral Prince, corrected a model in the form of a neat hunter with a musket and a hound and brought to a proper state]. Kaendler renewed the model again in September 1764. Another example is published by U. Pietsch (pub.), Porzellan Parforce Jagdliches Meißner Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts (2005). cat. no. 5.
