Staved Wood Firkin with Antler Handle
20 x 58 inches. A primitive wooden lidded bucket or firkin of tapered cylindrical form, featuring stave-constructed walls. The body is bound by four horizontal hoops: two flat-split wooden bands and two textured, rustic branch-like bands with intact bark. The wooden lid is composed of several joined sections and includes two integrated, upright tabs that align with corresponding tabs on the bucket rim. A hand-shaped antler tine peg is provided to serve as a locking mechanism through the aligned tabs. The wood is finished in a dark stain, exhibiting a weathered grain and a developed patina consistent with age. No maker's marks, signatures, or country of origin labels are visible on the interior or exterior surfaces of the vessel or lid.
