Stephen Tracy White (American, 1947–2005), also identified as Stephen Tracy White, was an artist and collaborative lithographic printer associated with the Tamarind Lithography Workshop during its transition from Los Angeles to Albuquerque. Alongside producing his own color lithographs, White printed editions for artists including Vija Celmins, William Pettet, and Fritz Scholder. His 1970 print Alquipa demonstrates the demanding multicolor registration encouraged by Tamarind, combining impressions from zinc and aluminum plates in eight ink colors. White’s work is represented in the National Gallery of Art, the Norton Simon Museum, and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art.

Alquipa, 1970, color lithograph from zinc and aluminum plates in two greens, three blues, two grays, and red-brown on buff Arches paper, printed by the artist and published by Tamarind Lithography Workshop. A pointed blue-gray form rises through loosely drawn black contours, with broad ochre passages circling across the upper field and fine red-brown texture covering the pale foreground. Inscribed in graphite “TAM. IMP.” at lower left and “Alquipa Tracy White 70” at lower right. “TAM. IMP.” identifies a Tamarind workshop impression made apart from the regular edition. Bearing the Tamarind bell and Tracy White printer’s blindstamps at lower right; verso numbered “2880” in graphite. Sheet measures approximately 20.5 × 19.5 inches. The sheet shows light toning with minor edge wear and two small mounting-tape remnants on the verso; image presents well. Provenance of Martin and Enid Gleich.
