Steuben "Diving Lady" Figural Centerpiece Bowl

DESCRIPTION: Steuben Bristol center bowl with matte finish and controlled bubble design. Fitted a top three frosted nude figural (Diving Girl) supporting inserts, raised from a translucent cairngorm base.
Blown, cast, fumed and cut lead glass.

The female figural element is known as the diving girl and also appears as a separate figure in a cut glass base and in several other applications.
Albert Farrar, Jr. of Rothdales stated that according to his inquiries to the Rockwell Museum only three are known of. One at the Museum in Jade Green shown in the Dimitroff book (without controlled bubbles); one by dealers, David and Elissa Goldstein and this one.
In speaking with dealer Sol Zwirn of Shadow Hills Antiques of Mission Viejo, CA on 10/13/00 he handled the acquisition of the green one by the Rockwell Museum. Cost to the Museum was $6,500.
On 5/30/02 Jim Barlow reports following his research at the Rakow Library that documents show this piece originally cost $100, and the records show no date or colors listed.
