Steuben Glass Figural Relief Luminor

DESCRIPTION: A glass figural relief depicting a classical nude scene (water bearers) green metal luminor base (likely a Crest fixture)
Cast lead glass in metal base.

Described in Cincinnati Art Galleries, llc holiday sale 2009 as, The crystal glass intaglio carved with a nude woman and a nude man clutching an inverted vase expelling a generous gush of water that descends and churns about their feet. The plaque is fitted into the original Art Deco metal base with buttress supports and contains a light fixture.
In Frederick Carder and Steuben Glass by Tom Dimitroff at p. 89 her refers to this plaque and one other pictured on that page, fig. 4.117, as “classical human figures”.
See also, p. 93 Fig. 4.122 (Dimitroff) of a sales catalog depicting architectural panels including this figural labeled “Crest”. The reference to “Crest” could be The Crest Company. Note in Collector’s Choice Review, Number 11, May, 1989, that a Cast Plaque #8418 was “produced as a special order item for The Crest Company, a manufacturer of lamps and lighting devices.”
In Paul V. Gardner’s The Glass of Frederick Carder, at p. 91 under the caption “Pressed Glass” the author says: “Relatively few pressed glass statuettes and ornamental pieces were made at Steuben. Nearly all produced from about 1928 to 1932, these consisted mainly of inserts for flower blocks…and decorated intaglio panels usually sold with supporting bases of glass or metal (see also 8461)
